What is the difference between the Byrna LE, SD and CL?
By Byrna's ratings, the LE uses 12 g CO2 and is rated 330 fps and 15.2 J, with about 17 shots per cylinder. The SD uses 8 g CO2 at 280 fps and 10.9 J, and the CL uses 8 g CO2 at 400 fps and 12 J. Byrna calls the LE mid-sized, the SD compact and the CL subcompact.
Can I use 8 g CO2 cylinders in the LE?
No. The LE is built for 12-gram CO2 cylinders. The SD and CL use 8-gram cylinders.
How big is the LE?
Byrna calls it mid-sized, larger than the SD and CL. It does not publish a length or weight for the LE, so check your holster or carry bag before you buy.
How many shots do I get from one CO2 cylinder?
Byrna rates the LE at 17 shots per 12 g cylinder at room temperature. Plan on spare cylinders for practice.
Can I leave CO2 in it? Does it have a safety?
With Pull-Pierce, the CO2 cylinder is not punctured until the first trigger pull, so Byrna says a loaded launcher can sit ready. The LE also has an ambidextrous safe/fire switch.
Does the LE have sights or a rail?
Yes. It has high-contrast white-dot sights and a Picatinny rail. Byrna sells red dot and laser sights separately.
